Proactive Policing: Engaging Our Community's Youth

With youth crime on the rise in our city, the Sioux Falls Police Department is taking a proactive approach by building relationships with a younger generation to change their perspective on police relationships. SFPD is partnering with area organizations to reach students and one of these community engagement partnerships we'll discuss is Camp POSTCARD. Camp POSTCARD (Peace Officers Striving to Create and Reinforce Dreams) is a free, weeklong summer camp that brings together law enforcement officials and middle school students from the Sioux Falls area. Rotarian Brian Mulder will moderate a conversation with Lt. Andrew Siebenborn and Sarah Hanson, Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives at Volunteers of America, Dakotas.

The buffet lunch will be available beginning at 11:30 am. The menu will be Roadhouse Chili, Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls and Grilled Cheese served with Chef's choice of sides, and dessert. RSVP is not required.

The presentation, at the club’s regular weekly meeting, will be held at the Holiday Inn City Centre, Sioux Falls and will begin at noon. All Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary Club programs are open only to Rotarians and their guests. All programs are recorded and streamed live on Facebook & YouTube. Local media are invited to attend to record the session.
