Weekly Meeting

The Important Role of Service Animals

On Monday, August 12th we'll delve into the pivotal impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has had on fostering inclusivity for individuals with disabilities. Leading the conversation will be Rotarian Vicki Stewart, Executive Director at Employment Disability Resources and Pat Herman, Special Projects Planner with the Center for Disabilities.

Centered around service dogs, we'll be joined by a working service dog. The presenters will share insights into their training, functions, and the legal landscape surrounding their vital role in supporting diverse needs. They'll also cover emotional support and therapy animals, navigating challenges and opportunities in accommodating their presence across various settings. They aim to cultivate a nuanced understanding of the legal and ethical considerations associated with emotional support pets, ensuring a balanced perspective on their significant role in promoting mental health. The contents of this presentation are not intended as legal advice.

The buffet lunch will be available beginning at 11:30 am. The menu will be Walking Tacos, Tossed Salad, Fresh Fruit and Dessert. RSVP and online payment is required by 5 pm on Wednesday, August 7th. If you miss the deadline, please still join us for Rotary, but lunch may not be available.

The presentation, at the club’s regular weekly meeting, will be held at the Holiday Inn City Centre, Sioux Falls and will begin at noon. All Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary Club programs are open only to Rotarians and their guests. All programs are subject to the club's Privacy Policy. Local media are invited to attend to record the session.
